    Volunteer Opportunities

    Dear Piranhas,
I want to apologize about the short notice about a volunteer opportunity we had this past weekend. We try to give you plenty of notice on activities. The beginning of the season is always hectic and be for I knew it it was Friday.
I want to first say that we have the best HOA around. Our HOA bends over backwards making sure everything is ready with the pools before our season starts. Anytime there is a problem with the pool area or pool itself they try to get it resolved quickly. They give us a good size donation in exchange for a little community supports we give from our team. At this time the two ways we give back to the community is through helping sponsor the Breakfast with Santa in December and power washing the pool areas.
At this time we need to get the power washing done before Memorial Day. In May most of our weekends are busy with our swim meets. We are trying to get the power washing finished before the meets start so that we don’t have to be spending everyday at the pools. We are going to be having two opportunities this weekend to power washing. We will be meeting up at the Cairnway Pool, 16222 Cairnway, from 12 – 4 PM on Saturday and Sunday. We have 3 - 4 power washers and could use several people with brooms pushing the water puddles that form off to the side and helping move the pool furniture around. If we have enough help and finish the Cairnway pool on Saturday then we will start on the Kieth Harrow pool.
If we do not get enough volunteers to help to the power washing we will have to let the HOA know and they will have to hire a company to get the work done. This will cause the HOA to lower their sponsorship with us and other ripples in our relationship with them. One of the reasons we have been able to keep our prices down on registration, volunteer deposits, and clinic prices is because of their generous donation each year. If their sponsorship goes down then we will have no choice in raising our rates.
Both the HOA and the Swim Team Board are continuously trying to make the Glencairn Community stronger than ever. The only way this is going to happen is if we all work together. I know many of you do not live in the community and may not feel that you have to support this community. One of the reasons you are allowed to swim with our team is because the HOA allows us to take swimmers from subdivisions that do not have a team in NWAL. We are planning other activities to improve our community. We need everyone’s help. Even if your child is at the moment in our clinic you could volunteer and that will go towards this year’s 25 hours if your child makes the swim team.
Please see Cesar Posada or Elizabeth Haag about signing up for the power washing or other volunteer activities though out the season.
    Sincerely,
    Swim Team Board
