Summer Practices
Dear Piranhas,
It is HOT outside and in the pool. This will make the swimmers over heat quickly causing injury and illness. The swimmers will sweat more than they realize. Even at 8 AM the swimmers are feeling the effects of the temperature of the water and air.
PLEASE FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO KEEP THE SWIMMERS SAFE AND HEALTHY:
1. Refrigerate the water or Gatorade/Powerade bottles the night before for morning practices and in the morning for the evening practice.
2. Bring at least 2 water bottles and one Gatorade/Powerade bottle with their name on it to keep at the pool side.for every practice.
3. After practice have the swimmers shower with water at room temperature and turn down to colder water. They should stay under shower for 30 min.
4. Swimmers need to stay hydrated throughout the day. A good measure is 8 oz for every 1/2 pound they weigh.
Example: 60 lbs swimmer: 30 x 8 = 240oz of water
5. Stay away from sugary drinks as much as possible. If they have to drink limit it to one per day.
